Some deliveries mean more because of what happens after the truck leaves.
For our team at Ziegler South Africa, helping NAC National Airways Corporation deliver containers for a new school was one of them.
When our client NAC approached us about supporting their initiative, they had donated containers to an NGO developing a school in Moutse, Dennilton. They needed help getting those containers to their destination, and we were pleased to support the transport and delivery.
The containers would take on a new purpose as safe spaces for children to learn and grow.
Our role was to help get them onto the school grounds and into position.
Planning the journey from Lanseria
The movement involved collecting 12-metre empty containers from Lanseria and transportingthem to Moutse, Dennilton.
For a delivery like this, planning extends beyond the road journey. The team also needs toconsider access to the property, the equipment needed to offload, and how the containers will be placed in their final positions.
At this site, telephone lines restricted access and complicated the placement of the containers.
The challenge was getting them from the delivery vehicle onto the school grounds.
Preparing for a difficult offload
Two transport and offloading options were assessed: flatbed transport with crane offloading on site, and a long-reach crane option for the more challenging placement.
The final equipment requirement could only be confirmed once the truck arrived and the team could assess access on site. Planning for both options meant the delivery could accommodate those conditions.
With the telephone lines in the way, a specialised crane was arranged to lift the containers into position. It was a practical example of the coordination behind a delivery: matching the transport and lifting arrangements to the site so the containers could reach the spaces prepared for them.
A delivery with a lasting purpose
NAC’s container donation and the NGO’s work to develop the school gave this delivery its purpose. We are proud to have contributed our transport coordination and logistics experience to help bring it together
