Expect even more Air Cargo delays this peak Season and into Chinese New Year

The already strained Air Cargo system that typically struggles to deal with Peak Season will be under even more pressure in the coming months. With multiple flight cancellations already implemented or being implemented due to this new Omicron variant, and what seems to be a knee-jerk reaction by a number of countries, this are not looking rosy.

One of the larger players in the Air Cargo space, Emirates, immediately cancelled all of it’s Southern African flights late last week, this coupled with various other cancellations will reduce global capacity even further. The nett effect, more delays, higher prices, prepare for it.

That for the immediate challenge, so plan early, but also look to next year’s Chinese New Year holiday as multiple “extraordinary factors” are expected to put transport operations under even more pressure in a market “characterised by limited capacity”. For this reason, you might also benefit from considering a bolstered inventory compared to normal.
