Ziegler proudly encourages youth employment

According to a recent report by Statistics SA, almost 1 in 2 people in the labour force (between 15 and 34 years old) do not have a job. Thus, youth unemployment is a serious dilemma in South Africa.

In a bid to play its part in addressing this crisis, Ziegler South Africa has offered grade 12 or logistics graduates a 12-month learnership programme.

After an interview process, Ziegler will choose the successful candidates and place them in a specific department at Ziegler where they will receive on the job training and study a part-time course.

Should these candidates pass their part-time course and excel at the training, they will be absorbed into the business after the 12 months.

Many learnership candidates do not have the funds to study further and require experience to get a job but cannot get a job without experience. Through its learnership programme, Ziegler attempts to break that cycle by offering working experience and an opportunity to study further.

Here are two testimonials from learners in the finance division:

“My learnership has been a wonderful opportunity. I could choose the department where I would like to work and learn all I can from that department. And if I apply myself and show commitment to my learnership, I have the opportunity to gain permanent employment,” Mpho Neluonde.

“I now work as an Accounts Controller in the Finance division at Ziegler South Africa. I took part in the learnership programme in 2019. Ziegler noticed my interest in accounts and freight forwarding and gave me this opportunity. The training was excellent and I had great support with my studying. After I was given permanent employment, I have been given a further opportunity to study even further. Ziegler has become a family to me and I am so grateful to them,” Sihle Simelane.
