UNASSIGNED CONTAINERS – 07/07/2020

Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) advised that the unacceptable high rate of unassigned containers are severely affecting the productivity in the Container Terminals.
The direct consequence of uncleared and unassigned containers, is that it contributes to the congestion experienced in evacuating containers from the terminal, whereby additional shuffles are required in order to work around “unavailable” containers and longer truck turnaround times for all users.

Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) have implemented a ruling on the assigning of containers, where vessels must have all containers assigned to transporters before the arrival date.

To adhere to the requirements outlined by Transnet, import clearance/release documents and assignment of containers to transporters (complete and accurate), must be submitted to the shipping line no later than 48 hours prior vessel ETA. Kindly note that overstay will be passed on cargo not cleared within the given time frame and if the container is not collected within the 3 free days allowed by the various Transnet Port Terminals, it will be moved by the carrier’s contracted Transporter into a nominated Depot, for the account of the customer.

Where the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a Public holiday, release documents must be submitted to the shipping line by 14H00 on the previous working day.

We therefore kindly request that a full set of commercial documents, required for Customs clearance are sent to the relevant operations controller at least 5 days prior to the vessel ETA.

We thank you for your continued support.
